Challenges and Issues

What challenges have you encountered while implementing ELF?     What doesn't seem to work?

One challenge we are facing is deciding what is an appropriate level of cleanliness for the toys and manipulatives we have in our A Street Playhouse area. How often do other ELF libraries clean their toys? Every day? Every week? Who does the cleaning? How are the toys cleaned? I'd be very interested to hear what other libraries are doing, and happy to share our cleaning policy once we decide on one.

I have taken home our dolls and soft pillow animals to wash them, but just once so far, which probably isn't nearly enough. My tendency, which may not be completely hygienic, is to wash/clean things when parents ask, and/or when I see stuff going into mouths and/or I see or hear lots of sneezing and coughing going on around the area. Keeping things clean is definitely a challenge. And I am generally the one to clean them.
